The new 2021 Audi A4 sedan model has been issued and is a new product that Audi is introducing this year. Actually it s a car which has already been established and is well known in its circles, this time it is getting a light refresh in order to make it still a competitive model in the field. Sometimes it can be hard to get excited about a new car, particularly when we know how Audi redesigns its car, but this time we can immediately see more changes than were expected with the model.
The initial thought that excited us is that there were not a lot of carryovers from the current model as there are a lot of cues that are seen from the models that Audi has been outputting since 2015. But the A4 keeps its main characteristics which are initially most important for the segment it competes in. Being sporty and elegant is what it got it where it is now and they are certainly not going to give that up which also means keeping a bunch of parts and characteristics from the previous model.
It can be hard to risk it and go for a major overhaul in this segment, particularly when one needs to compete against some giants as BMW 3 Series, Cadillac ATS, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Jaguar XE model. All of these models are well worth contenders, making it that much tougher for the designers of Audi A4 2021 to introduce some bold new changes.
The does managed to grow in its proportions though, as the compact model has been growing with each new model ever since it was introduced in 1994. The 2021 model is no exception and it will feature a few more inches to its length and shape for the redesigned model. The North American debut has been scheduled for the Detroit Auto Show but the original release date comes out next year. Keep reading the review so you find out more about the specs and the price of the car.
The exterior of the 2021 Audi A4 follows the same recognizable recipe that made it successful in the first place and follows the redesign cues that they have always introduced. It is immediately recognizable as an A4 but it’s slightly larger than the previous model. The shape is the same but the liens are a little sharper, which is something that has been also done with the Audi Q7 and Audi R8 models. The redesign also sees the car with more aerodynamic properties that give it a drag coefficient of only 0.23.
The grille and the headlamps have been redesigned and are as fresh as it gets while the apron has only been redesigned in a minor way. The grille has sharper cues while the headlamps have a new patter and a design which extends towards the fenders. The hood is a little bit different and has been changed and combined with all the other features makes the A4 a bit more aggressive looking. The rear end has also some sporty details and changes which sees the redesign of the bumper and a shorter trunk lid and slimmer taillights. The changes in dimensions are 1 inch longer and 0.55 inch wider, and its wheelbase has gained 0.6 inch.
There were actually more changes introduced to the interior of the 2021 Audi A4 that its outside. These changes will remain till the release date and we do not expect any optional or additional equipment to be added till then. The cabin is now very much dated as it has a design which can compete with the most luxurious rivals in the segment. We still get a classic look of the dashboard but with a redesigned and cleaner looking center stack and overall dash layout. The most obvious changes are the inclusion of a 8.3-inch color display and brining the infotainment controls closer to the center stack.
The steering wheel is new and it seems that it has been based on the Audi Prologue Concept vehicle. The MMI controls are also borrowed from the said concept while the shifter is directly pulled from the R8 model. The controls are positioned lower to the handle which makes it easier to reach and use. All of this makes a much more upscale and comfortable look for the car and its use. The bigger dimensions of the car also give way for more room and allow more spacing to be added. Combined with the prime materials that the seats have been upholstered with and we have a pretty nice looking Audi A4 2021 model.
There is a bunch of changes coming under the hood of the 2021 Audi A4, particularly as the model receives three gasoline and four diesel powerplants. The model uses a the 2.0-liter TFSI that makes 188 horsepower returns 49 mpg on the highway which is due to a newly developed combustion method. The smaller 1.4 TFSI is on the other hand good for 48 mpg. We also get the 2.0 TDI which improves fuel efficiency by 21% and returns with 63.6 mpg.
The European versions are going to have a different range which starts with a 1.4-liter TFSI rated at 148 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Then there is the 2.0-liter TFSI available with either 187 horses and 236 pound-feet or 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet.
The diesel offers are a 2.0-liter four-banger and a 3.0-liter V-6. The first one develops 48 horsepower and 236 pound-feet or 184 horsepower and 295 pound-feet while the V-6 is able to produce 215 horsepower and 295 pound-feet or 268 horses and 443 pound-feet.
