The new 2021 Volkswagen Jetta combines some flare of German personality with features such as a voluptuous cargo and passenger space, an energetic and fuel-thrifty turbocharged engine, and a responsive hybrid powertrain to offer a civilized ride quality that helps set it apart from the crowd. More about the 2021 Jetta is covered below including recent design changes, release date and price estimates, and exterior/interior redesigns.
2021 Volkswagen Jetta USA Release Date & Price
It is too early, at least at the time of this writing, to speculate about the Jetta’s release date and price as Volkswagen is yet to offer any hints regarding the two important areas. But even so, industry pundits say we should expect the vehicle sometime probably in the spring of 2021. The base model base price will be around $17,680.
Volkswagen Jetta Review
It does feels squishy a bit, doesn’t it? It’s probably because there’s an elephant in the room. Well, at the time of this writing, Volkswagen is still grappling with the emissions expose that nearly brought it down to its knees. Recent news has it that it is willing to buy back all the diesel-powered models that were bought. Therefore, until this mess is cleaned up don’t expect the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta TDI anytime soon.
Beneath the hood of the regular Jetta are four engines offered including a hybrid powerplant. Power generated ranges from around 150 horsepower from the base turbocharged 1.4L four-cylinder engine to the 210 horsepower – generated by the turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine offered beneath the hood of the Jetta GLI. The Jetta Hybrid sums up the power offerings with its 170-horsepower – generated by the working synergy between a 1.4L turbocharged engine and an electric motor. Fuel economy ratings are impressive as we shall later see in this review.
Some time back, the Volkswagen Jetta boasted of offering the best-in-class interior and impressive driver engagement, and was revered among its peers that included the Corollas and the Civics of the world. Nowadays the opposite seems to be true. It isn’t quite as great as it used to be especially in terms of interior refinement. The 2021 model however, seeks to reaffirm the former perception by shifting towards the Costco philosophy that is essentially about offering plenty of features for the least amount of price.
True to its philosophy, the new Jetta offers plenty of cargo and passenger space than its peers, albeit lacks the praise it had a while ago. While there’s no doubt the Jetta offers lots of value for the features it offers, there’s apparently a whiff of cost-cutting here that makes it hard for us to fully recommend it against its seemingly impeccable rivals. That said though, the newest model is still a top contender for the top prize thanks to its interior upgrades and refreshments.
However, the segment comes chock full of alternatives that are hard to overlook. Some of these include the Mazda 3, Ford Focus, and the Honda Civic.
As at the time of this writing, the new 2021 Volkswagen Jetta is available in six trims: Hybrid, GLI, 1.4T S, 1.4T SE, 1.8T Sport, and the 1.T SEL.
