This one’s a boon for all those midsize pickup truck buyers who couldn’t really satisfy their tastes with the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, or its counterpart, the 2015 GMC Canyon, both of which are products from General Motors.
It was on February 16, 2015, that GMC piqued curiosities by releasing the spy shots of a Canyon with Denali styling, hinting at plans to add the mid-size truck to the Denali line-up as a 2016 model.
This special model, called the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, will be a beastly rock crawler that will whole heartedly embrace the rugged terrains, which are often difficult to drive on.
2016 Chevrolet Colorado interior and exterior design
This time around, the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado’s specs facade, comes armed with quite a few cool upgrades. Dumping the previous truck’s low-hanging bumpers, rubber air-dam flaps, and side steps, the makers have swapped them with a blunt front end and restyled back bumper. It’s wider and taller with an unaltered cabin but an altered anterior.
The truck that is designed keeping the off-road market on its radar comes with the cool upgrades of electronically locking differentials, trimmed bumpers, and remote reservoir shocks. The wheel arches will now house 18 inch alloy wheels added to all terrain tyres. Adding to the joys, will be a four-inch-wider track, skid plates and a 48-inch Hi-Lift Jack.
The standard headlights are Xenon and LED designed, while the grille features meshwork in honeycomb pattern. The suspension system is equipped with new King shock absorbers meant for long travel and high ground clearance.
The interior of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, on the other hand, follows the same general layout. The seats are provided with lateral support while new technologies in the form of satellite navigation, automatic climate control and leather upholstery will be ushered in.
The engine of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado is the brand new 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel four-cylinder, which will provide 181 horsepower and 25 mpg, on an average. The only visible drawback will be a sic speed automatic gearbox instead of the modern eight speed automatic, which will compromise on the speed to increase comfort. Also, it will only be because of the engine that the new model is expected to tow more than 7800 pounds.
The new ZR2 a maximum speed of 120 mph and an average of 60 mph within ten seconds. A balance shaft and a variable-geometry turbo may deliver some TDI-level refinement, while the Duramax will provide a better fuel economy in comparison 2015 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel.
2016 Chevrolet Colorado price and release date
Instead of the US, the GM of Canada are said to have greenlighted the project, although official confirmations are yet to be released. Going by the trends, the 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and Nissan frontier are said to be the most competitive market rivals to the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado.
Again, based on rumours lurking in the air, the release dates are said to be mid-2016 or at the most late-2016. The prices are predicted to be around $30,000, which although may seem as a steep price for a compact truck, is actually reasonable.
